Do you do what’s “right”?

I was reading a book on country living earlier (I am a rural gal after all) and how people generally pitch in to help their neighbors during tough or busy times.

It made me think of something in business — when you’re speaking with a prospective client or customer, do you do what’s right for them or for you?

For example, I was speaking with a prospective client a few weeks ago.  She wanted me to privately coach her on her small business marketing plan and systems.

While I easily could have done it, it was clear to me that she would be better served by a group program I’m launching this month and I told her so.

While telling her I thought the group program would be better for her needs was in her best interest, on the surface, some would say it wasn’t in mine — after all, my private coaching programs cost more than my group programs.

However, my thought is that by doing what’s best for my prospects and clients in every instance, I do what’s best for me and my business in the long term.

Make sense?  Do you agree/disagree?

I’d love to hear your thoughts…
